Rowing Knee Injury
Just like any form of exercise, there is a potential for injury when using a fitness rowing machine. A rowing knee injury can occur due to improper rowing technique. However, by exercising with proper form on a rowing machine, you reduce the risk of knee injury when using an indoor rower.
Pain can occur in your knees from rowing if you knees aren’t aligned with your feet during the row. This is similar to performing squats. If your knees do not align with your feet during the squat, there will be stress towards the inside of your knee, making you susceptible to injury. When using a rowing machine, if your knees are narrow and your feet are positioned wider than your knees, you can experience pain and may worsen if you do not correct your technique.
By modifying the position of your feet, or increasing the distance in-between your knees so that both of your feet are aligned with your knees, you’ll minimize the stress during the rowing motion.
However, if the pain in the knee persists, always consult your doctor for further advice.
